Sixth grade is a unique year at Cornerstone Academy. Unlike the local public school system, we keep 6th graders in the elementary school program. This age group still thrives in a setting with one classroom teacher overseeing their day while still getting the unique opportunities for enrichment classes with teachers who are passionate about music, latin, art and science.
Our sixth grade curriculum focuses on the history of the 1900′s. As in all grades, this historical theme weaves through all subjects as they read, write and explore our modern world through a Christian worldview.
Also unique to Cornerstone Academy’s sixth grade, is that we feel this year is an important transitional year. Students are taught to take ownership of their homework organization. Specific field trips are chosen that will build leadership skills. Service projects will stretch them out of their comfort zone. The teachers are specifically chosen to help them identify who God has created them to be. Time is taken to teach etiquette and protocol.
Highlights we are looking forward to:
- Leadership training at a ropes course developing leadership and teamwork skills.
- Community service in Monroe and Everett serving the elderly, poor, widows and orphans locally.
- Relationships with Integrity program ending with a special coronation ceremony marking a rite-of-passage event for both young men and ladies. Parents are also included in this special event.
- A year end mission trip to Eastern Washington to serve in poor communities.
- Possibly even ski school
